Pinoys in Dubai hail Pacman victory

Thousands of Filipino workers in the Dubai, United Arab Emirates cheered as People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao knocked out  Mexican American opponent, David Diaz, during their fight Saturday in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Overseas Filipino workers in Dubai converged at a popular Filipino bar in the city to watch Pacquiao’s fight live on ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel pay-per-view. The fight was aired around 5 a.m. in Dubai.

The OFWs cheered after each round and yelled every time the Filipino boxing icon landed a punch.

In the ninth round, the Filipinos rejoiced as Pacquiao sent a battered Diaz down the canvas to snatch the WBC lightweight title. Pacquiao’s victory made him the first Asian to win four titles in four different divisions.

Other nationalities who watched the fight also expressed their admiration to Pacquiao, saying they were impressed by the Filipino boxer.

The ecstatic OFWs said Pacquiao, who hails from General Santos City, has once again made his countrymen proud by this new feat.  Dindo Amparo, ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau
