2 ex-military colonels included in coup charge post bail
Former Colonels Ernie Amboy and Cesar dela Peña each posted a P80,000 bail bond at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 92 where the case of violation of Article 136 of the Revised Penal Code, or proposal to commit coup d’etat, has been filed against them.
Aside from Amboy and Dela Peña, also charged are Adaza, retired Philippine Army Col. Oscarlito Mapalo and former police Superintendent Rafael Cardeño.
Adaza posted bail last Friday while Mapalo has yet to post bail for his provisional liberty.
Cardeño, on the other hand, remains detained at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) since he has a pending murder case in connection with the killing of Young Officers Union spokesman Baron Cervantes.
Adaza, dela Peña and Amboy are also facing charges of obstruction of justice/harboring a fugitive before the QC Metropolitan Trial Court while Cardeño is also charged with violation of Article 178 or using fictitious name or concealing true name.
The court has yet to schedule the arraignment of Adaza’s group.
The five were arrested by the CIDG last July 2 at the vicinity of Crown Plaza and Robinsons Galleria in Ortigas Center, Pasig City following the complaint of lawyer Raymund Fortun, former counsel of pardoned former President Joseph Estrada, that Adaza had a “proposal to commit coup d’etat.”
Fortun added that Adaza’s group allegedly tried to extort $4 million from his Japanese client to finance the supposed coup plot. - GMANews.TV
