JV Ejercito ‘classmate’, pals nabbed for assault

Police on Monday night arrested three men for allegedly hitting a resident of San Juan City with a shotgun and harassing a policeman.

The three were identified as Jovito Merced, Jojo Raagas, and Nonoy Raagas.

They were accused by Bernie Castillo, a resident of V. Angeles Street in Barangay Kabayanan, of hitting him with a shotgun on the head.

Senior Inspector Melchor Rosales, a member of the San Juan City police, said he responded to a call from Castillo. While at the complainant’s residence, Rosales said the suspects attacked him.

“There were five of them. They pulled me, that’s why I asked help from other policemen,” Rosales told ABS-CBN News.

Castillo, meanwhile, said the suspects attacked him without any provocation. He said the three hit him and pointed the shotgun at him.

The police officer said that one of the suspects even dropped the name of San Juan City Mayor JV Ejercito while being arrested. He said one of the suspects told him they were classmates of the mayor.

The suspects, however, denied hitting Castillo and dropping the name of the mayor. The three declined to give further statements to the media.

Police will file complaints of direct assault and physical injury against the three suspects. Two other suspects are being hunted down by policemen.

Ejercito has yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.

Just want to correct the story, the undersigned is not in anyway close to the aggressors nor are they my friend. When I heard about the incident, i rushed to the scene upon learning that the police was unsuccessful in apprehending the Raagas brothers. I personally made them surrender and had them arrested for assault against a police officer and for public disturbance.

I do hope that media would be more careful in reporting inaccurate stories.
