Domestic workers in HK to receive $100 wage hike
MANILA, Philippines - Aspiring domestic helpers to Hong Kong will receive a higher monthly salary as the government there announced a HK$100 wage increase.
QTV’s Balitanghali reported Friday that Filipino workers who signed their contracts on Thursday, July 10, are entitled to a minimum allowable salary of HK$3, 580 (roughly Php21,000).
Hong employers found violating the new law will pay a fine of HK$350,000 (more than Php2-million) and three years’ imprisonment.
The United Filipinos in Hong Kong (Unifil - HK) however said the HK$100 wage hike was much lower than what they expected.
According to the report, Unifil-HK is pushing for a HK$ 4,000 minimum allowable salary. - GMANews.TV
