Pump boat sinks off Cebu; 5 rescued - report
MANILA, Philippines – Five men were rescued when their pump boat sank after being battered by huge waves off the coast of Cebu province early Friday morning, a radio report said.
The report said local fishermen spotted the five men drifting on the waters off Barangay (village) Esperanza in the province’s San Francisco town.
Initial information said the victims sailed off from Palompon town in Leyte province and were supposed to travel to Cebu’s Lapu-Lapu City to pick up the body of a relative who died from a heart attack.
The victims said that they were sailing off the waters of Cebu past midnight when they were met by strong winds and rough waves that caused their sea craft to sink.
San Francisco is a fourth class municipality located on Camotes Island on Cebu’s northwestern portion. - Mark Merueñas, GMANews.TV
