Five Pinoys die in Saudi road mishap
Five overseas Filipino workers died following a road accident in Al-Batha town in Saudi Arabia, near the border with the United Arab Emirates.
The fatalities were identified as Marcelito Obon, Roberto Hornilla, Antonio Reyno, Johnny Gregorio and Ronald Valdez.
The accident happened on the night of July 25 when the victims’ pick-up truck accidentally collided and went under a trailer truck.
The impact caused Obon and Hornilla’s heads to be severed from their bodies. Both were working for the same company as pipe fitters.
It was learned that the OFWs were employed by three separate companies in the Eastern Region. At the time of the accident, they were working on a certain Aramco project at the Saudi Arabia-UAE boundary.
Reyno and Gregorio, meanwhile, were employed by different companies as mechanics. Authorities, meanwhile, are still determining Valdez’s employer.
Labor Attache David Des Dicang said the Philippine Overseas Labor Office of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA) is now coordinating with Al-Hassa authorities.
The victims’ remains are now at the morgue of the King Fahad Hospital in Al-Hassa.
