Mother, 3 children die in Aklan fire
MANILA, Philippines — A mother and her three children were killed in a predawn fire in New Washington town of Aklan province Monday, an online news site reported on Tuesday.
The Visayan Daily Star (www.visayandailystar.com) reported that the fire started at 4:15 a.m. and destroyed two houses and offices, including a Coast Guard detachment.
Police initially identified the fatalities as Lea Destaho, 42, and children Paul Kevin, 14, Patricia Gail, 10, and Eduard Jr, 4.
Aklan fire marshal Chief Inspector Alexander Alinday said the fire started at the victims’ house in Dumaguit village.
Responding firefighters put out the fire at 4:50 a.m.
The report cited arson investigators’ estimate that damage to property may reach P700,000. - GMANews.TV
