Rice trader, wife killed in Davao ambush - report

MANILA, Philippines - Unidentified men shot dead a rice trader and his wife just as they arrived at their home in Davao City from the public market Monday night.

Radio dzBB’s Davao affiliate reported that two children and a worker of the victims were wounded in the incident, with one of the children reportedly in serious condition.

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte ordered a full investigation into the incident, which took place at 8 p.m. Monday.

The fatalities were initially identified as Rene and Molly Cajoles, rice traders who also own a National Food Authority outlet in the city. The report did not identify the other victims.

Initial investigation showed the victims had just arrived home from the Agdao public market and were alighting from their vehicle when they were shot.

Police said the men were likely robbers as they took a bag containing an unspecified amount of cash from the victims.

On the other hand, they said they are not discounting the possibility that a land dispute or the theory that the New People’s Army is involved. - GMANews.TV
