LRTA loses P700,000 in revenues due to Sta. Cruz fire
The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) said it lost an estimated P700,000 in revenues following Monday’s fire near the LRT station in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
Jinky Jiorgio, LRTA public relations officer, said the losses do not yet include materials and equipment damaged by the fire.
“May mga gamit, equipment na affected ng sunog,” Jorgio told abs-cbnNEWS.com.
Another official, meanwhile, said that aside from revenues, passengers were definitely affected.
“Affected ang aming revenue income at the same time and public apektado din dahil nga sa mga pangyayaring ganito,” said Felix Layson, office-in-charge for operation.
As of 4:30 p.m., Jorgio said LRT coaches started servicing the both routes from Baclaran to Monumento. The fire disrupted train operations that passes through Carriedo Station.
LRTA implemented half-line operations starting 10:30 a.m. to accommodate passengers from Baclaran to Monumento only.
The fire on Monday was the third incident that disrupted LRT operations.
The blaze broke out at the ground floor of the Good Earth Plaza commercial building along Avenida Rizal corner Bustos Street in Sta. Cruz at 5:20 a.m.
Firemen had to destroy the building’s glass windows to let some smoke out and allow water hose inside to douse the fire.
The nearby Paradise Hotel blamed the security guards for its slow action to respond to the fire but the guards denied this.
Arson probers will start investigating the blaze on Tuesday to determine what caused it.
