Malabon govt to construct pumping stations in Dampalit
The Malabon City government has committed to build two new pumping stations in Barangay Dampalit, which has been experiencing perennial flooding during rainy seasons.
The construction, however, will not be able to solve the barangay’s current flood problem. Classes in two schools in the barangay — Dampalit Public School Main and its annex — were still suspended on Tuesday because of floods caused by rains brought on by tropical storm “Julian.”
City engineer Benjie Villacorta said the construction of the pumping stations will start before the end of the year. He said the city government decided to make the commitment because the Department of Public Works and Highways have been refusing to do the construction.
Villacorta also complained that the existing pumping stations in the barangay built by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority have stopped working.
Meanwhile, he said the Malabon City government is hoping that the P5.1-billion Camanava Flood Control Project’s opening on August 16 would solve their perennial flooding problem.
The flood control project, which will open on August 16, is meant to address the flooding problem in the northern part of Metro Manila or the Camanava (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela) area. With dzMM
